2022 TMAX – First impressions

At EICMA 2021 (we were there), for the first time we saw live Yamaha’s: new entry: the new 2022 T MAX , better known as the king of scooters.

Let’s see the new features of the model.

The iconic maxi scooter is characterized by redesigned lines and more technological innovations compared to the past.

Certainly, the main changes involve the aerodynamic bodywork, which has been redesigned with revised proportions, a flatter shape, and smoother lines. This is further enhanced by the higher positioning of the headlights and the prominent air intakes.

Basically, this aesthetic choice makes TMAX more similar to touring motorcycles than classic scooters. To most people preferring the old model featuring a more sporty look, thanks to its elongated and aggressive nose, the lower positioning of its led long shape headlamps may not like this change. Even the windshield has been modified and become taller to provide better protection while riding.

Turn signals’ position marks a clear step change: indeed, with the new TMAX, Yamaha has definitely abandoned lateral turn signals directly integrating them in the headlamps for a more minimal style. Additionally, the single-focus lens ensures maximum visibility and safety.

Other design changes are responsible for the longer seat, the larger footboard for greater passenger’s comfort, and TMAX’s thinner central body. This makes the scooter handier and more agile considering the repeated stops and starts waiting at traffic lights while riding in town.

Even the tail of the bestseller designed by the three tuning forks’ manufacturer changes its look and features a T shaped led rear light with integrated turn signals.

Besides, the new Yamaha TMAX is equipped with a EURO 5 560 cc powerful engine offering smooth and sports riding performance. Plus, the new light SpinGorged rims and the aluminum handlebar significantly enhance comfort.

2022 TMAX – Technological features

Let’s study the technological equipment Yamaha has decided to include in the scooter’s world as absolute innovation.

Connected TFT display. The new TMAX comes from the factory with a large 7-inch color display, controlled via a practical joystick, offering navigation through three different visual styles.

Yamaha’s user-friendly My Ride app allows you to connect your smartphone (via Bluetooth) for music playback, weather updates, making calls, and receiving notifications.

Keyless ignition system. A convenient keyless technology enables you to start the engine, unlock the seat, center stand, and fuel cap without needing a physical key.

For maximum safety, the YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) ride-by-wire technologies and APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip) fly-by-wire system provide enhanced control, especially in wet or uneven terrain, to prevent rear-wheel slipping.

In short, for maxi-scooter enthusiasts, the new TMAX is definitely far from disappointing. It perfectly combines the handling of a maxi scooter with a fresh, distinctive look for those who want more than just function.
